Top Sky Gardens Across The Globe

Nowadays, there are many ways to protect the environment

. From arranging a boiler service with a well-known company, to using a water-efficient shower head, you can reduce your carbon footprint but how about going one step further and creating your very own sky garden?

These are popular around the globe, so lets take a look at three of the best for inspiration:

The Roof Gardens, London

Situated on top of the former Derry and Toms building on Kensington High Street, The Roof Gardens are a sight to behold. Divided into three themes including a Spanish garden, a Tudor-style garden and an English woodland garden, guests can enjoy over 1.5 acres of wonderful scenery. Everything from fully grown oak trees to stunning fruit trees grow here in just 1.5 metres of soil and are perfectly complemented by a peaceful running stream. You can even find four beautiful flamingos named Bill, Ben, Splosh and Pecks, as well as the gardens resident ducks.

Acros Fukuoka Building, Japan

Japans well-known for its beautiful rock and moss gardens, but its also got its fair share of sky gardens including the one at the Acros Fukuoka Building. Look at it from one side and it looks like a normal office block complete with a modern structure and plenty of windows, but look at it from the other side and youll discover something magical. The roof garden here spans 60-metres above the ground and merges with a spectacular park. It contains around 35,000 plants representing 76 species and is well worth visiting if youre ever in the area.

Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

The five-storey school of Art, Design & Media at Nanyang Technological University campus, in Singapore has something rather special: A grass-topped roof garden that can be seen for miles around. Not only is the structure of the building incredibly unique, but the grassed roof serves as a type of insulator. It has been designed to lower the roof temperature, cool the surrounding air and harvest rainwater for landscape irrigation, making it a rather marvellous invention.

Of course, these sky gardens are some of the best in the world, but theres no reason why you cant start your own mini creation. If you have a little roof space, unleash your inner gardener and see what you can achieve.
