Top Summer Events in Barcelona

There's never a bad time to visit Barcelona, but if the summer is your season of choice, you won't have to look too hard to find a plethora of things to see and do in this vibrant and colourful city.

With a variety of festivals and events taking place in the city this summer, you won't be short of entertainment in Barcelona - but which are the ones you should plan to go to? Well, it's easy - simply make sure you head to the city at some point during its annual summer festival, Grec.

Grec is so-named as the majority of events take place in the Teatre Grec, a gorgeous Greek-style amphitheatre that's worth visiting in its own right. However, between June 13 and August 18, it's even more worthwhile. That's because the amphitheatre plays host to a huge variety of events, including plenty of entertainment and a wealth of musical offerings. You'll find drinking, dancing, comedy and anything else you can think of in droves during this festival, and it's not just contained within the Teatre Grec - it's all over the city, taking place at any time in any locale, so don't be surprised if you stumble into a magic act while enjoying a simple stroll through the city!

Of course, you don't need big events and festivities to make your summer holiday in Barcelona a memorable one, but they do help. Even if you don't plan on attending too many performances and parties, there's still plenty to hold your attention in on a balmy summer's afternoon. From taking in the cultural highlights along the Barcelona waterfront to exploring the city's incredible gastronomic scene, it's really not difficult to see why so many people visit this beautiful destination every year. The Spanish way of life makes it all the more enjoyable: Barcelona in the summer is so lazy, so relaxed, and so sociable that you'll always feel comfortable and perfectly at home, welcome in a city filled with not strangers but rather friends you haven't met yet.

Don't forget to take your afternoon siesta as Spanish people stay up late, heading out for dinner at around 10pm and often staying out until the wee hours before heading home for bed. You'll appreciate staying in the comfortable Barcelona hotels when you finally head for home - only to get up in the morning and do it all over again. After all, the Grec festival is on - you've got a show to go to!
