Flying off to your favourite ski resort for a weeks break is what many look forward to during the winter months

. Choosing an all inclusive package will often make things much easier for yourself and your party, as this will often cover everything from flights, accommodation, buses to the slopes, ski hire, lift passes, the lot. Therefore the only thing left for you to do is to buy all the skiwear that you will need for the holiday!

This is a simple enough task, however there are a few things to consider and research needs to be done in regards to what exactly you will need. This guide will cover the basic points and outline the best approach to buying skiwear for your 2011 winter skiing holiday:

Baselayers-stay away from cotton: This material will not dry easily, therefore stick to ski wear materials that are lightweight and breathable. Baselayers should be tight fitting and be made from a high wicking fabric.

Check the weather: Some ski resorts are much warmer than others and allow you to ski in much fewer or lighter layers. On the other hand temperatures in some places can be very very cold, so extra layering may be required. Some extra midlayers like long sleeved breathable fleeces would be suitable skiwear to bring as a spare; they can also be packed into a day bag and brought along just in case it does turn colder.

Top quality socks: Socks are not something to scrimp on when it comes to choosing the right skiwear, having ill-fitting, or poor quality socks can have a big impact on your performance and your comfort on the slopes.

Jackets and salopettes: Skiwear such as jackets, ski pants and salopettes of a high caliber should be breathable, wind proof and waterproof. Some will also be fleece lined and contain detachable features, such as hoods and gaiters, so choose skiwear that you think is most suitable for you. Don't forget colour of course, skiwear often comes in a range of vibrant colours and patterns so pick something that fits your style!

Accessories: Hats, goggles, sunglasses, gloves and ski tubes are all essential ski wear items to have, you can choose these to match the rest of your skiwear, or you can jump on the extreme hat band wagon like many do. This often makes it easier for your friends to spot you on the slopes.

Ski Boots: Ski boots need to be fitted correctly as you'll be wearing them all day...there's nothing worse than being on the mountain in badly fitted boots... just make sure you get the correct size!

Snow Boots: Don't forget your snow boots for the last essential piece of ski wear. These are hard to go wrong with; these will prove essential for during apres ski time!
