Top Tips For Healthy Hair, Volume 2

With winter over and summer just around the corner

, your hair could be in serious need of a good pampering but if youve got better things to be doing than spending hours in the bathroom applying lemon juice and raw egg to your hair before wrapping it in cling film and a hot towel, here are some simple tips to save you time, effort and endless split ends.

Firstly, its worth investing in a hair treatment masque or visiting your hairdresser every couple of months for a deep conditioning treatment either way youll see a big difference in the condition and shine of your hair. There are loads of great deals to be had on hair treatment masques online so they dont have to be a big treat and using them once a month will give you an enviably shiny mane whatever the weather.

Its definitely ok to use styling products but ones that contain alcohol tend to dehydrate hair so go for more natural and organic products which will still give you the hold, volume or shine youre after without drying out your hair.

The other thing about hair styling products is that they shouldnt be applied directly to the scalp as they tend to clog and block pores. Your scalp behaves in the same way as the skin on the rest of your body and can react if it gets clogged, by producing extra oils to try to unblock pores (which can mean your hair gets greasy more often than usual and you can get spots in amongst your hair or along the hairline).

Sometimes a nice hot shower is just what you need but your hair wont appreciate the scalding. If youre washing your hair, using warm water is a gentler option and for added shine, give your hair a final rinse with cold water to close the hair follicles its like toner for the hair.

Your hair is at its weakest when its wet, so if you can resist the urge to brush or comb it when its wet, do it. If you must brush it, choose a wide tooth comb which will avoid snagging on small knots and tugging mercilessly at your hair.

And finally, while youre all wrapped up in caring for your hair, your brushes and combs are lying sad and neglected wishing they could have a bit of tender loving care too. To avoid putting grease straight back on to your hair, de-hair and wash your brushes and combs at least once a month and let them air dry.
