Top Tips For Irrigation Sprinkler Systems

If any of you are keen gardeners then you will understand the worry that goes through my mind during the hot summer months-house pipe ban

. Happens every summer, and each year I look in despair as my lovingly watered plants shrivel up in the afternoon sun. I am lucky enough to have a garden that catches all of the evening and afternoon sun and although that makes it lovely to sit in on a summer afternoon it also means I need two good irrigation sprinkler systems.

However there are some ways that you can conserve water and use less in the garden, saving yourself money and the environment at the same time! One simple trick to do this is to adjust your irrigation sprinkler systems so that the timer runs differently for seasonal changes in the weather. Making a small monthly change to the operation times can save you more money and water. It really takes no time at all and will make quite an impression on your water bill. Put a simple reminder on your calendar so you never forget each month when to do it!

Run your irrigation sprinkler systems in the morning hours, less water is lost to evaporation when the temperature is cooler. Plus in most places the wind is less severe in the morning; also watering in the evening can lead to the spread of disease within your garden. The plants sit overnight covered in water (especially in the hotter climates) and can damage your lovely plants! I love nothing better than making myself a cup of tea and sitting in my garden watching the plants get watered. The fresh air clears my head for the day and there really is nothing better than enjoying your own garden space.

Lastly make sure that none of your plants or shrubs are blocking the irrigation sprinkler systems as this can mean you are paying for water that is not even reaching your plants properly. I have been thinking about making my own water butt too, to be super green because as a gardener it really should be my number one priority. This means that in the hotter summer months instead of worrying about my beautiful plants being scorched in the sun I can use my own reserve of water. Though I may have to find a filter system as I am not too keen on all the green algae that usually collects in water butts. Yet having said that I am certain that plants won't be too fussy!
