With summer almost at an end, many fashionistas are looking forward to the first shopping spree of the new season

. Goodbye summer dresses, hello cosy knitwear and snug jackets. The weather may not be warm but women's designer fashion is definitely heating up this winter. If you are counting down the days till you can ditch the sun cream and get back into your winter clothing, why not fast forward the summer and hit the shops early in order to beat the crowds? As always we will be back in black this year as top designers reinvent the universally flattering colour trend. Layers are big news especially layering different shades and textures of the same colour. Stock up on black jumpers, dresses and jackets and experiment to create a textured look that will see you through the cold months.

Leggings are still reigning supreme, which may be a surprise for those that thought that the 80's trend would die out. Luckily for those of us that prefer to keep their pins nice and toasty, leggings are the perfect winter addition to your wardrobe. Experiment with a range of colours including maroon, teal and navy to give a solid outfit a pop of vibrant colour. Remember the golden rule when it comes to wearing leggings, always ensure that your dress, top of tunic goes to at least thigh level, they may be comfy but they do have a tendency to show off all of your lumps and bumps.

Winter footwear does not have to be dull and dreary like the weather. Embrace the latest on trend accents and invest in a pair of boots with stud detail to give your outfit a rock and roll edge. If studs are not your thing there are plenty of other fantastic designs around at the moment that combine practical winter style with on-trend fashion. Go for buckles and vintage styles to really stand out from the crowd.

The key to winter fashion is to not get sucked into the often miserable feel of the season and show off your inner personality with your clothing.
