You wake up one day, find out that your door is making that awful creaking noise every time you open it and realize that yes, it needs some fixing

. The first thing that most people do is go through the yellow pages to look for a professional who can put their door back into shape. However, a lot of these individuals will learn that some of these companies or workers are either all booked out or are too expensive for their budget.

The next best thing to do or probably, what experts advise, what you should have done in the first place is to get ready to do the task yourself. There is no rocket science involved in fixing a door. It simply requires being able to place a nail here and there to mend and securely put your door back in its place. What you do need is some basic measuring and woodwork skills, good common sense, and of course, the necessary hardware tools to get the job done.

Speaking thereof of hardware tools, a home should never be without it at least the fundamental ones that can be sure to aid and help when fixing some little nooks and crannies that you may have in your home on a sporadic basis. For one, you and your home should be equipped with one or more of the primary hand tools. Here are two of them.

Hammers. To fix that door and to put that nail in place, you will need something to hit it with. A four by four cut wood may seem to do the job but you will find out that seem is a little far off from actually doing it. The best tool is of course a hammer. There should be no arguments that hammers were made to strike on nails. When purchasing a hammer, check the label to see if it can be used for nail pulling, household chores or at least general carpentry tasks which are basically what you will have going for you at home. If you are thinking that all hammers are alike, you are wrong.

Hammers can be further classified into mallets, hand drilling hammers, shingler's hammer, tack hammer, framing hammer, sledgehammer, finishing hammer, a ball pein hammer, a soft face hammer or a drywall hammer. Quite a list so remember to get a household hammer when you go shopping. When choosing one, hold it in your hands to get a feel on how heavy it is. It is always best to pick a hammer which you are comfortable working with. Check if its weight and size is good enough for your needs.

Screwdrivers. Screwdrivers can take on a lot of functions in your home. They can not only help you in fixing your door or your cabinets but they are also good aids when you need to fix electronics like the television for instance. Essentially, screwdrivers do the trick in screwing and unscrewing bolts may be as mentioned on a door, on a cabinet or on a television set.

Screwdrivers have varying tips and each kind of tip works for different kinds of rivets and screws so if you can, you may want to get one of each kind to make sure you have the right size on hand whenever you need it.
