Tornadoes Sweep Through Mississippi And Other Southern States

This batch of tornadoes that hit the South on Saturday hit very close to home in a different way than you might imagine.

My brother and his family live in Starkville, Mississippi which was under serious tornado alerts for many hours on Saturday. They were fortunate that no serious damage was done to their house, especially considering two tornadoes hit the college town.

I'd had a chance to speak with my brother on a previous occasion about emergency preparedness, and he and I are both glad for this. In addition to gallons of clean drinking water and plenty of non-perishable food, he also had plenty of flashlights, fresh batteries, a first aid kid, some games for his smaller children, and a battery operated radio so he could stay on top of the news.

All this came in very handy because they lost their power for nearly a full day. We had a chance to talk after the last tornado passed through and he not only felt fortunate but also felt like they were quite prepared to weather the aftermath because of his emergency preparedness kit.
