Tough Economic Times Make Charities Work Harder
Sometimes our lives seem to be meaningless
Sometimes our lives seem to be meaningless. We may drift from one thing to another, not really having a focus. Perhaps we are basically fulfilled with our job and family life, but feel like there is something more we need, something we could be doing to be happier. Many people find joy in giving. They find a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment that doesn't come any other way. You too, can find the same completeness, the same joy in giving.
Perhaps you do not know what to give. It is amazing to learn all of the things that people need in this country. Things that we take for granted each day. Basic survival depends on food; however, there are hundreds of thousands of people in this country who go hungry each day. Many charitable institutions accept donations and provide food to people who are hungry. Anyone can donate to the local food bank or soup kitchen and find satisfaction in knowing that they have helped to provide a meal for a hungry child or family.
Clothing is another item that people find joy in giving. It can be easy to go through the closet and pull out gently used items that are rarely worn or that no longer fit. Giving these items to a charitable organization can be as easy as placing them on the porch on the regular pick-up day for a local thrift store or driving them down to the headquarters of a church or other charity that accepts used clothing. You can feel that warm feeling of having done something nice for someone else.
Money goes a long way to helping those in need. Many charitable organizations accept donations of cash to help provide for the less fortunate. However, in these tough economic times it can often be hard to come up with cash to donate to others. There is another big-ticket item that may be sitting in your side-yard gathering dust that could really help needy people in a big way. That old clunker that no longer runs may be more valuable than you suspect. Rather than paying a towing company to haul it away, why not donate it to a charitable organization that can use it to help children or families? They will arrange to haul it away for you and will even provide you with a receipt that you can use to document a deduction on your taxes.
By donating an old vehicle, you won't have to try to sell it for pennies on the dollar. The charitable organization will either sell it or fix it and sell it to use the proceeds to help people in need. You will truly be able to find joy in giving, and will know that you have made a real difference in someone's life.
