Tour around the cradle of the industrial revolution with no heavy weights in tow
About nine million people visit Greater Manchester each year and include at least one overnight stay in their itinerary, according to official figures
. The shops, the markets, the nightlife, the landscape, and of course the world-class sport all bring in their share of people who decide to make more than a day of it.
Manchester is a city which buzzes with activity day and night, and a comprehensive and excellent value public transport network makes it easy to get around, whether that just involves the city and the area immediately around it, or using Manchester as a base for adventures further afield.
One of the most fascinating areas to explore is Castlefield. Just west of the city centre, the area houses the city's Museum of Science and Industry. Here, the story of how Manchester came to lead the world into a new age of industrialisation is told, and exhibits reflect the true scale of the far-reaching effects which the work of the city's pioneers of mechanisation set in motion.
Trains, trams and buses provide a quick way of getting to this area. But as their priority is the movement of large numbers of people over short distances, these urban transport modes are not especially well equipped to cater for visitors who are carrying large amounts of luggage with them.
Another popular attraction is the Imperial War Museum North, at Salford Quays. Set amidst an area of futuristic office blocks and with excellent shopping facilities, many restaurants and a cinema multiplex also close at hand, this is an area deserving of an extended visit. Here again, trams and buses take visitors right to the heart of the action, yet having to carry substantial amounts of luggage can restrict the fun and entertainment to be had.
With left luggage offices on hand right in the heart of the city, getting to and from these destinations, and the many others which Manchester has to offer, including its famous shops, is so much easier. Leaving overnight bags and other heavy items in the care of staff at a left luggage office which is staffed for long hours seven days a week also means that they will be securely stored, so everything will be just as you left it whenever you are ready to collect them again.
The only thing to remember when packing luggage which will be left in storage is to be sure that items which will be needed, such as cameras or recording equipment, are kept separate. Otherwise, it's a great chance to savour the freedom of travelling light, while still having the reassurance that you have packed all you need.
Left luggage Manchester and
Left Luggage Glasgow facilities are right at hand on arrival at the city's main railway terminus, Piccadilly station. This is handy for all the city centre's attractions, and users can be sure that their left luggage will be continually looked after.
