Tracing Ties: HTC and Google

It comes as to no surprise to many people that HTC will be releasing the Nexus One Google phone. After all, it was HTC that released the very first Android phone, the HTC Dream. But before the Taiwanese company was ever a part of Googles grand scheme to conquer the mobile phone industry, HTC was originally focusing on developing devices using Microsofts Windows Mobile operating system; and prior to that, the company had its own local hurdles to face. HTC Before Google HTC Corporation originally stood for High Tech Computer Corporation the name was later changed to just HTC. The company started operations back in 1997 and have been continuously contributing innovations to technology. HTC was the very first company to produce a colored palm-sized PC back in 1999. The company got its first major break when it was selected as Microsofts hardware platform development partner for Windows Mobile. From 2000 to 2006, HTC has been developing many first Windows devices for the market such as the very first Windows Pocket PC to the very first Microsoft 3G device. With the partnership with Microsoft, HTCs profits continued to grow. The growth of the company was not just entirely because of Microsoft, HTC also developed many major devices of their own as well. The HTC Advantage and HTC Shift took the concept of portable computers to a whole new level and combined touch screen technology with keyboards to create an unparalleled user experience. Entering the Alliance When Google created the Open Handset Alliance in 2007, HTC was one of the very first members to be part of the group, along with other major companies such as LG, Samsung, Motorola, T-Mobile, NTT DoCoMo, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and more. Less than a year later, HTC announced that it will be releasing the HTC Dream under the name of T-Mobile G1 the worlds very first Android mobile phone. Despite being a relatively new operating system, the Android gained popularity and acclaim that brought it quickly to the ranks of the iPhone OS, WinMo, Symbian, the BlackBerry OS and the Palm OS. Today, the Google Android operating system is one of the most successful mobile platforms available. Since then, HTC has continued to produce other Android devices such as the HTC Droid Eris and the HTC Hero. HTCs Future Androids So far, HTC has already confirmed their Android phone line-up for next year and more importantly, the HTC Nexus One. The Nexus One is a much celebrated mobile phone due to the fact that despite being manufactured by HTC, the device will be carrying the Google-brand, making it the very first next-generation Google phone. Since Googles announcement that they will be making their own phone, everyone was wondering which manufacturer would be making the device. Since HTC already made the very first Android, it makes sense that they will also be making the Nexus One. HTC will also be launching its own high end Android smart phone, the HTC Bravo. This device will have a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen and a 5 mega pixel camera.
