The most often method that they are referred to is that of online package tracking. This is the most common way that couriers now have their customers access their automatic package tracking systems. However, there are many couriers which also have an older tracking system in place, one which allows their customers to track their packages via telephone.

To many people this might seem outdated, but to others that have worked in the courier business a while longer this seems like an old and familiar way to check a package. Many people don't want to be bothered to change how they have done something for a very long period of time, which is why those that have become comfortable with checking their shipping status over the telephone are hesitant to change to an online system. And realistically, why should they have to?

Many people are in away overwhelmed by the ease and convenience that the internet presents, without stopping to think also about how much easier it is now to access a system by telephone than it used to be. The telephone status system makes perhaps more sense now than it ever has. You'd be hard pressed to ever find a businessman in today's world that doesn't have a cellular phone with them at all times, meaning that at any time of day they are only a few button strokes away from checking the status of their shipment.

The only problem that presents when checking status by telephone is that it typically does take much more time to get the same amount of information as you can get by checking your status online. Usually, all of the information might not even be included on a phone system as in the online one. You have to wait for the (usually) automated attendant to read you all of the information in order, rather than simply being able to skim a screen and pick out the facts that you are looking for yourself, but it does save you the time and effort of looking yourself as well as helping you when you do not have access to the internet. Customer service respresentatives should always have the ability to find out where your package is at any one time.
