Tradeshow Exhibits Vs. Tents: Which Is Right For Your Street Show?
Street fairs are a characteristic of summertime throughout America
. Especially in New York City, the residents all seem to organize massive swap fairs or celebrations during the summertime. These become a hybrid of an outdoor convention and a full convention, offering a unique atmosphere. There are two primary types of exhibit used at a street show: tents or portable exhibits.
Vinyl Tent Basics
The tent, for many people, is the classic statement of a summertime street show. It is usually white and has either a canopy on top or a canopy with sides. It is easy to set up and can be either staked into the ground or held up by sandbags or buckets. They come in standard sizes and are generally easy to carry without requiring many people for set up.
There are several benefits that come with this style, but also some serious detriments. They do provide good shelter at a lower price than most other options can offer. However, they are quite flimsy and relatively unadorned compared with tradeshow exhibits. Their frames are typically hollow and comprised of parts which can easily bend out of alignment. In addition, the vinyl plastic which covers them can often become frayed during repeated setup and takedown.
Comparing Tradeshow Exhibits
Portable exhibits are a striking contrast to the tents. They typically are much more customized, as they are designed not to be simply off the shelf like most tents. Where tents are white and dull on the outside, good tradeshow exhibits are vibrant and make great branding tools. They are also built on sturdy frames, preventing them from some of the damage that can occur with tents. However, they are also the more expensive option. This is partly because of the frame and partly because it costs more to make something as customized as a good booth.
The major upside to a booth is its high level of customizability. There are virtually no limits on what can be done with a good design company. Canopies can be added to make the space outdoor friendly. New designs can be implemented. None of this is easy with a plastic tent.
Which Is Best?
The ultimate solution is to consider what you need before you buy anything. First, decide whether money or impact is most important to you. If it's the former, you'll probably want to choose a canvas enclosure. They are very economical, and using one this year might help you make enough to buy a booth next year. The other primary reason to choose this type of setup is if you are actively marketing to a buyer class that expects it. A flea market, for instance, would typically think that portable exhibits made by a professional company were out of place, yet a canvas tent fits right in.
For larger companies, a more customized design is usually more successful. Good portable exhibits can really drive visitors and make a substantial change in traffic at the street fair. However, be certain that the display is designed for the street fair format. You will have to work to get attention, but if you put in the time and effort, the reward will be worth it.
