Becoming a pub landlord is exciting, regardless of whether you have done the job before. Whether you purchase the premises fully decorated or you are starting from scratch with the building there are a number of design ideas for the interior. The first decision is whether you want a traditional looking pub or one that is more modern looking.
The typical look of a traditional British pub is a range of small tables with four stools or small chairs around them. Most pubs have a range of seating including settees and armchairs and often there is an open fire.
Traditionally, British pubs usually consist of two rooms, one is the bar area. This is the room people would see first, it has the bar and offers less seating. The room is predominantly for drinking and the area might have a number of pub games such as darts or a pool table available for customers to play.
The second room is the lounge or eating area. In it would be a number of tables with matching sets of leather dining chairs. The room is usually decorated to a higher standard and is furnished with comfort in mind, as it is where people would sit and enjoy their meals.
In contrast, modern pubs offer something a little different. Often designed with the quantity of customers in mind, a more modern pub may have games such as slot machines or quiz machines instead of the traditional pool and darts.
Modern pubs are sometimes aimed at a younger type of client, whereas a more traditional pub would aim to attract a more mature client that would visit most evenings and even families on a Sunday afternoon.
Some modern pubs even employ a DJ at weekends and have a dedicated area that is used as a dance floor on a Saturday night. Again, whether you choose to do this is dependent on the type of establishment you will be running. But this should be highly influenced by your clientle. After all you are creating an environment that will be attractive to them and will encourage them to keep coming back.
