One of the greatest assets a hunter of Antique Bottles can have, is a detailed "map" of the area they have selected to search that would be dated early enough to produce proven antique finds. This map could be an actual map, photos, drawings, writings, signs, word of mouth or various other means to convey instructions.

The hunter then must sort through this information to determine which is authentic, which is relevant, questionable or fictitious. This researching and authenticating can comprise up to ninety percent of the total search effort,leaving the last ten percent to the actual search. Utilizing this equation will prevent many hours of fruitless searching.

If one is to pursue the search effort in a jungle environment you must understand the challenges of successfully navigating your way through to your targeted site. It is quite disappointing to have cut your way to your intended site only to find you missed your target.Research, research, research.

One of the best "maps" would be a daily record kept by someone who had experienced and traveled the very route you desire to investigate and did so in the time period you seek. Now you will find that this trail has not been in use since 1855 and the jungle has reclaimed the previous passage way. This however, does not prevent a dedicated hunter from entering the area if they are properly prepared.

I have been able to step into the jungle and locate the actual route within an hour. The original road had been cobble stoned in the 1530s and is no longer intact, but parts can be located with a probe rod three to six inches beneath the jungle floor. The presents of bottle and pottery fragments help to narrow the search. This Trail of bottles is now about sixteen miles long littered with thousands of antique bottles yet to be recovered.
