. You may hear rumors about people saying that it is difficult to train chihuahuas. This may be true for some pet owners, but not for all. As you train chihuahuas, you should know that since they are very smart, they tend to pick up basic commands quite quickly.

Of course, when you train chihuahuas in the obedience department, they are not as natural as lets say golden retrievers, but that does not mean your dog will not learn as fast. As you train chihuahuas and learn how to teach sit, when done the correct way, your pup should catch on to this in just a few days. You should learn the fundamental lessons like socialization, crate training and house training before you learn how to teach sit.

Some dog owners take learning how to teach sit by inappropriately abusing the command. Some just use the command for when they want the dog to stay still, or when they make a nuisance of themselves. This does not work, it only confuses the poor dog. When you learn how to teach sit, start by saying the command in a cheerful voice. Hover the treat over the dogs head and some dogs will sit naturally and then if so, be sure to praise and treat them.

If not try learning how to teach sit by gently using your hand to slightly push his bottom down. This is a very basic command.
