Transform Your Students From Unruly To Well-behaved
For a teacher there are very few things that happen in the classroom than students talking while you are trying to teach
. You don't necessarily need to be able to hear a pin drop in the classroom but you do need the noise level to be at a point where your lesson can be heard.
Here's a guide to help you out if you have tried to get your students to quit talking during a lesson and have not had good results. These tools will have you prepared for the next time this happens to you.
The cold stare - A cold icy stare is always a good attention getter and intimidator for a much too talkative student. Make sure that you hold it long enough for it to take on the total effect.
You really don't have to make a face at them an actually that not a good idea. Just giving them a blank "do you mind" stare is more than sufficient to get your point across.
Offer them the floor to speak to the class - This is a great way to get a talkative student to shut up. They are obviously talking about something that they see as more important than the lesson and don't want to share it with the class. Having an audience is not something that they are looking for right now.
By giving them an opportunity to share with the class you are putting them on the spot in front of their peers. They are going to get very embarrassed and more than likely clam up right away which is exactly what you want. The other student will see this happen and quiet down as well.
Assign Extra Homework - This little tool is bound to work If you assign an extra page of homework to each student and let it be known that the reason for it is because of the actions of the talkative student. The fact that the whole class has to pay for his actions is really going to have an effect on the behavior of him as well as the whole class.
Some teachers are against this idea but it's not the actual homework be used as punishment it's the added homework.
