Since the 1960's Spain has reduced the number of routes that the regional railways can use. But rather than leaving these areas to become part of the countryside once more have spent much time and money on transforming. As a result today there are more than 60 routes across Spain, 12 of which are to be found in Andalucia that are suitable for not only horse riders and cyclists to use but also walkers and people in wheelchairs.

Plus there are also places where one can stop for a rest and enjoy the picnic that they have brought with them.

If you do intend to explore any of these routes when visiting Spain then make sure that you go properly prepared. Although the routes are well paved it is still a good idea to wear a stout pair of walking shoes. Plus make sure that when you do go on these walks that you carry plenty of provisions, especially water.

Another that you should also do before you choose to go out on one of these walks is inform others of your intentions. Plus make sure that you carry a mobile phone with you and know the emergency number that needs to be called should a problem arise. In Spain for the emergency services that you should be dialling is 112.

Once you are properly prepared then you can think about taking one of the routes such as the one that runs between Jaen and Guadajoz River. This particular route covers a total of 55km (just over 34 miles). It follows the same route that the trains taking olive oil from Malaga to Algeciras would have taken.
