. There are ways to save money when traveling to Spain and it is best to know beforehand how much the budget is before actually committing. Here are some ways to minimize the costs of traveling to Spain without placing such a dent on the wallet.

Advanced Preparations

One can actually get cheaper prices for plane tickets if the arrangements and the payments are done several months in advance. There are a lot of budget airlines to European countries and these should be the airlines to think about when buying tickets to Spain. Using American airlines are more expensive for the budget conscious and going there on European airlines will still bring you to your destination. However, before committing, make sure to investigate how much are the extra costs involved in these budget flights.

Steer Clear of Train Travel

There are a lot of movies and books about traveling to Spain using trains, but if you want to cut the costs, don't use the train. Surprisingly, train travel is expensive and what are really cheaper are the bus rides and the hitching technique.

Don't Do It Alone

When traveling it is usually the room and board that could really make a dent. So don't travel alone, share the costs of the room with someone else although it is not really good to advise the traveler to strike up a conversation with a stranger to share the room.

Underground Traveling

No, taxis and buses are not the only way to travel about Spain. They have a great metro system in Madrid and Barcelona which could take you places cheaply.

When in Spain....

If you are American, do not look for American food in Spain if you want to keep to the budget. There is great food in Spain so take the opportunity and eat their food. Not only are they cheaper, but they are way better in taste and appearance. And, they are an experience that should be part of the travel. If you insist on eating American, be a virtual tourist instead.

Go to Places that are Free

If you like museums go on days where there are free passes given. It may be busier, but at least you get to experience the culture for free. If you can't finish the tour, go back the next day. Simply ask when the free admittance is.

Eat for Free

Ever heard of Tapas? These are free food that is laid out on the bar for anyone to pick up and eat. You can find these places in Granada. Note: Tapas may include generous portions of hamburgers and fries in some establishments.
