Travelers from temperate regions of the world would often get diarrhea a few days
after they reached certain countries, and diarrhea is considered to be the most commonly seen illness of travelers. Though not all travelers experience diarrhea or an upset stomach when reaching different areas of the globe, but there will still be a handful of travelers experiencing it depending on different areas visited.
People experiencing stomach problems like diarrhea might most probably due to their stomach not having to get used to foods from different region of the world, unlike those foods that they usually eat in their own countries. It can be really troublesome to have an upset stomach when you are at other country intending to enjoy and have great fun there. As you would most probably be running around, hunting for washroom every now and then, instead of happily enjoying yourself to the utmost.
I personally think that prevention is always better than cure. So it is important for you to know some of the useful tips to prevent traveler's diarrhea or any stomach problems when going abroad.
Here are some of the helpful tips you might want to take note of.
Avoid eating food from street vendors
It is important to avoid eating food from street vendors as they are considered to be not clean as comparing to places like restaurants and cafe. Remember to not eat at any places that are unhygienic and not clean as there will be higher chances that the food been infected with bacteria and microorganisms and hence, leading to an upset stomach.
Consume food at right temperature
Another thing is that, food has to be consumed at the right temperature. Those food that has to be eaten cold, should be eaten cold. While food that has to be eaten hot, should only be eaten when it is hot. You might most likely be consuming bacteria into your stomach if the food is not consumed at the right temperature.
Importance of clean water
It is very hard to tell if the water that you are drinking is clean as you will never know the origin of water when abroad unless you stick to bottled or boiling water. Avoid ice as well, as like being mentioned above, you would never know the water source. Hence it is best to stick to either boiled or bottled water.
Bring along first aid box or medicine
It is advisable to bring alone a first aid box and a few medicine pills for common illness like cough, flu, and headache and stomach pain. You will still be able to get mild immediate treatment once you fall ill.
You should always see a doctor and seek medical treatment if the condition worsens. Remember to drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated.
