Travelling From Pune To Shirdi By Road, Rail And Air
Shirdi is better known as the place where the popular saint Shirdi Sai Baba lived and is situated in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra state
. Popularly called the 'Land of Sai', Shirdi is considered to be a pilgrimage destination for many Sai devotees throughout the year.
Nothing is known about the real birth name, religion or birth place of Shirdi Sai Baba, but he is still revered by that name. Sai Baba's teaching combines elements of Hinduism and Islam.
The Shirdi temple complex of Shirdi is spread over an area of about 200 square meters. Maruti Temple and Shani Temple, constructed under the supervision of Shirdi Sai Baba, are the other places of attraction in Shirdi.
Pune and Shirdi are well connected by road, rail and air.
The distance between Pune and Shirdi is about 185 km. It takes about four hours to reach Shirdi from Pune.
If you are driving your own car you just have to follow the NH 50 from Pune that directly goes up to Shirdi. As this route is a most frequented one, there are quite a few facilities on the way like petrol pumps, restaurants with clean rest rooms. The drive takes you through towns like Chakan, Manchar, Samgamner and finally Shirdi.
There are numerous buses that run between these two locations as well. These buses vary from ordinary buses to A/C Volvo buses and charge various fare according to the amenities offered. Buses are operated by both government and private agencies. Though the bus journey is more or less comfortable, it is recommended for individual backpackers and youngsters.
You can also hire a cab from Pune to Shirdi. It may cost from Rs. 12 to Rs. 20 depending on the vehicle you are hiring.
Shirdi's railway station, the Sainagar Shirdi Railway Station is just 2 km from the city. But most of the trains from Pune stop only at Kopargaon, 14 km from Shirdi. The daily trains from Pune to Kopargaon are Goa express (12779), Pune Manmad express (51401), Nizzammudin link express (17305), Azad Hind express (12129), Pune Patna express (12149) and Maharashtra express (11039). From Kopargaon you can catch a bus or hire a cab to Shirdi. There is direct train to Shirdi from Kopargaon, the Lokamanya Tilak Shirdi express that takes 45 minutes.
The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) site facilitates online booking of tickets from the comforts of ones home.
The closest airport is Gandhinagar Airport in Nasik. Shirdi is a further 80 km away and cabs are easily available.
Shirdi is a must visit place for not just the Sai followers but also for others who need a little peace in this busy world.
