Treating Bed Bugs when you have Pets
Pets can be sensitive to the insecticides used to eliminate bedbugs
. Therefore, proper care must be taken to treat them from bedbugs as well as ensure them a safe surrounding. To begin with, you must play detective. Check all those areas around your bed. Spot the smaller cracks, openings or furrows, which could possibly be the bedbugs' hideout. Remove mouldings, lift up the carpet edges and observe the seams where walls or ceilings meet. Bedbugs commonly hide near the bed, so as to get a hold of the sleeping host. Check the cracks behind picture frames if any and spray all the overly suspicious items, even if they are free from bedbugs.
It would be best to apply cedar oil on both sides of the mattresses. A majority of box spring units come with fine mesh netting, which would cover the mattresses. Spray insecticides on this part, so as to kill the bedbugs hiding under the bed cavities. Use box spring covers and zippered mattress in order to prevent future infections.
Remember that bedbugs are extremely tiny creatures and are barely visible. They can easily penetrate between the tiny gaps of zippers and clasps. Bedbugs cannot fly or jump and hence they would reach their hosts by simply crawling. Tape up the tiny gaps in the wall. You could also change your wooden headboard for a crack-free metal headboard. Do not allow you pets in bed with you. However, if you are emotionally attached to your pets, then treat them with cedar oil before having them in bed with you.
