These mental disorders generally last only for an hour or two and by the time the person reaches the doctors office, he would feel relieved and relaxed. First of all, your doctor may prescribe aspirins if he suspects a heart attack; other medicines to control blood pressure may also be given. Anti-anxiety drug treatments, such as diazepam and lorazepam, may also be prescribed after the doctor has made an evaluation. Even after the diagnosis of the actual problem is done, there would be chances that the doctor might not give treatments for the panic attacks right away.

There will be lot of other tests conducted to evaluate and analyze whether there are any other problems or mental issues with the patient. Those other mental disorders could be anxiety, depression, etc.

To date, there are a number of drugs recognized as effective panic disorder treatment. They are namely the selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and benzodiazepine drugs. Clinical studies have demonstrated that these drugs could cure up to 80-90% of patients with panic attacks.

Usually mental disorder such as panic disorder has accompanying physical symptoms, which can be treated effectively with medications like beta-blocker, e.g. propanolol. Benzodiazepines are generally used to give instant relief to the patient suffering from this mental disorder. Some of the benzodiazepines categories of medicines are clonazepam and lorazepam.

There are lots of other medicines that can be used for panic attacks treatment, but you must be sure not to go over board with these medicines as they could potentially cause serious side effects due to excessive usage.
