Treatise Opposing Carbon Trading Schemes

It may seem strange that, whilst I actively promote renewable home energy solutions

, I am dead set against many of the policies forced upon us by the climate-industrial complex / environmentalist movement.

Our current western technological civilization was built upon energy provided by carbon based fossil fuel. Without the relatively inexpensive and reliable energy provided by coal, oil, and gas, our civilization would quickly collapse. This is exactly what the global warmist would like us to do.

It is erroneous to believe that new energy technologies will magically appear if we suddenly stop using carbon-based energy. Political will and coercion cannot repeal the laws of physics and chemistry. And no matter what Al Gore and the global warmist would let you believe we cannot achieve prosperity by destroying the very means by which prosperity is created.

With the west and its mountain of red tape appears confused and crippled with self-doubt and guilt its role as the torchbearers of human advancement is being eclipsed by the east.

Even though I believe that solar and wind power have a place in home energy solutions the church of environmentalism and global warming would classified me as a heretic. With this in mind let me commit another heretical act.

I've previously touched upon carbon trading schemes in this article I plan to go further in establishing a case against carbon trading schemes.

I cannot for the life of me understand the idiocy behind carbon trading schemes unless I look at it as a scam; the theft of even more wealth from the middle classes. Carbon trading produces nothing.

The problem is that carbon emissions are involved in every aspect of the human experience - whether that is eating, breathing, thinking, working, playing or dying. There is not a living thing on this planet that either ingests or emits carbon. We are carbon based creatures that use carbon based energy to warm ourselves, cook our foods and light our homes.

One should always look at the big picture. I look at the numbers, at who benefits from particular policy, at who is pushing what and I follow the money. It is very easy to allow your emotions to impair your judgment and allow propaganda and slick infomercials to get the better of you. In fact main stream media in the form of radio, television and newspapers disseminate a considerable amount of climate-industrial complex based propaganda on a daily basis.

For me personally I want to know about the benefits; how something benefits me and then how it benefits society at large. I require the facts, not fabrications masquerading as facts, and I do not want others to decide for me.

When it comes to environmental issues it is best to have a healthy dose of skepticism and to read widely on the subject including views that don't correspond with your own views. There is so much bad science surrounding the subjects of environmentalist, global warming and climate change. Environmentalist, global warming and those with vested interest edit facts that don't fit their narratives.

They ignore the sun's effect upon our planet including the fact that we are in a period of low solar activity. Volcanic activity is also ignored.

I believe that grandstanding politicians jumped onto the carbon trading schemes to make it look like they are actually acting on climate change. However the complex legislation that governs emission levels and forces us into carbon unit trading will be an expensive and economically destructive way to bring about change.

Carbon trading is a virtual market in a non existent commodity for an undeliverable product that is already permeating the developed world, exciting lawyers, bankers, brokers, bureaucrats, auditors, engineers and a plethora of consultants. They know that although there is no real value or actual product being created, they will be able to, with the help of the politicians, fleece the general public/taxpayers of vast sums of money.

Carbon trading schemes are already making fortunes for some people including Al Gore. Richer people can buy credits to keep on emitting while smaller businesses will go to the wall.

Side note: Talking of of Al Gore... Did you know that George W. Bush's ranch in Texas is more environmentally friendly than the Gore mansion in Tennessee. It consumed 10,656 kilowatt-hours in 2006, whilst the Gores wolfed down nearly 221,000 kilowatt-hours in 2006.

Carbon trading schemes are an open invitation to corruption and fraud. It exposes governments to lobbying by interest groups seeking special favors, concessions and exemptions. And as always, governments will find it politically impossible not to favor some at the expense of others. The opportunities for evasion, avoidance, special pleading, cheating and fraud will be endless.

Where carbon trading schemes have been in operation as in the European Union, there has already been manipulation, cooking of the books, corruption and fraud.

Carbon trading schemes are worried that a recession coupled with rising energy and food prices could set the stage for an anti-carbon trading backlash if people so strapped for cash that they no longer can afford to fuel their cars, heat their homes, or feed their families will become more receptive to the arguments of global warming skeptics.

Well I've got news for them shorter cooler summers and longer colder winters are already making people more receptive to the arguments of global warming skeptics. Arguments based upon logic and facts instead of sentiment, half truths and misinformation will ultimately win the day.

As much as many people would like to believe that carbon trading schemes are used to subsidize the installation of new renewal energy infrastructure and that they are not used for any other purpose the truth is entirely the opposite. The lack of transparency and debate on the subject speaks volumes about their agenda. Amid the hysterical rhetoric about "climate change" (that very term being transparently dishonest code for "dangerous human-caused global warming") have you ever heard anyone tell you what real (not imaginary) gain will result from such swingeing expenditures and social disruption?

Carbon trading schemes are getting a lot of bad press lately, and smack of indulgences for the rich and powerful. Progressive environmentalists are now backing off on them, in favor of tighter emissions regulation

Incentives can be devised to encourage investment in real energy change without resorting to carbon trading, carbon offsets or carbon tax. However that will take political will, and that appears unlikely in the west.
