It is not about the features that can be delivered anymore. Instead it is about the usability of the software solutions provided to the users. To be frank, the trends in the enterprise application development are going to be more or less the same in 2013 as what they were last year.

The demand for gadgets like tablets, laptops, iPad, etc., is increasing. With this trend, the cloud computing will see new heights. Powered by mobile solutions development, cloud computing will give way to newer businesses in the healthcare and retail sector.

Social Media Networking: Facebook is accessed by a big chunk of the world population. The other social media sites like Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, Google+, Pinterest, etc., are also growing in their popularity and usage by the people. With such strong following, social media networking is going to touch newer heights in not just 2013 but more years to come.

More use of Open Source Software: The open source content management software like WordPress and Joomla have seen tremendous popularity this year. These are going to grow further in the years to come. Introduction of newer open source softwares is expected and the already exciting newer ones such as Life-Ray (portal development) are going to gain more popularity and acceptance by the users. This will lead to migration to open source software from the older systems and applications as maintenance cost will be higher and upgrading the older systems will be no easier.
