Stewart Greenfield, the founder of Trivia Dating set up his service for singles in March. He wanted to do something to combat the tired Sydney dating scene. "I could sense a growing air of disinterest among my many single friends when they discussed dating," said Greenfield. "Online dating was like online shopping very impersonal speed dating feels like a job interview and blind dating was just plain awkward and intimidating."

Those first words, initial dinners and that very first kiss is always a bit daunting. Greenfield said trivia allowed for good times and conversation usually came quickly to participants. "We mix the girls and the guys over two different tables for the first round of trivia and when that's over we get them to swap," he said. "This way everyone gets a chance to speak to each other." Greenfield said this provided for a comfortable and real setting to meet people. "Playing trivia means the singles don't have to make up the conversation in a sense its done for them and all they need to do is have some fun."

If you thought communal dating was for the unemployed, the ugly and the desperate, think again. Greenfield said the singles were all ages, mostly professionals and very good looking. "They are just groups of people who often have everything accept the time to just go out and let their hair down with the possibility of finding love," he said. "Trivia dating aims to offer a friendly, fun environment that, while still obviously focused on bringing people together, doesn't feel like a Friday night wine bar meat market."
