Tropical Fish (in Particular Angelfish) May Well Be The Centre Of Your Tank
Angelfish is one of the most popular tropical fish in the world
. Being an expert in breeding angelfish is the first step to becoming an experienced fish breeder. You will find some simple steps on how to breed this species in this article.
Angels are divided into various types based on their faces and colors. There are many colors available like leopards, blushers, and silvers. The diversity in color will give your tank a look as if there are many species while in fact you only breed angelfish.
You can house about six juveniles in a tank of 33 gallon. You should not decorate anything at the bottom of the tank. The pH level may be set at 7 and the ideal temperature is 80f. You can feed them with flakes, beef heart mixture and blood worms.
When they have grown 6 to 8 months old, they begin their mating process. Some pair may pick their own territory and start defending it if there is another fish in the area. If you are sure that your fish have paired, you should remove them from the tank and then move them to another tank. The tank for the mating pair should be no more than 20 gallons and should have an acceptable spawning site.
The perfect temperature for breeding is 82 degrees. You should see the belly of one of your fish begin to swell within five to eight days. This is the sign of a female. You will see the papilla on both of your fish within the next few days. The papilla of the male is much smaller than that of the female. Once the female begin to lay eggs, you should not disturb the tank.
Prepare a notebook and take note which one lays eggs and which one fertilizes. Once the eggs turn white, you can be sure that the spawning process has been successful. If it has not, you should try again until you succeed.
You should leave the parents to look after the eggs. The eggs may take two to three days to hatch depending on the temperature. Before they can freely swim all over the tank it takes about three to five days for them to wiggle. Once they can swim freely, you can start feeding them. Micro worms are the best kind of food for newly hatched angels.
You can leave the parents with their young for about three to five days. After five days you should remove the parents and feed the young separately. Now you can start the cycle again. Angelfish may sometimes be very demanding and require great care. However, as one of the most loved tropical fish, angelfish can make an ordinary tank look outstanding.
