In this article I will guide you through a few simple steps for troubleshooting monitor issues.
Sometimes the obvious can be overlooked or it could simply be a software video setting.
Check that the monitor is connected to the correct video output connector.
Check that the power outlet is working (plug the monitor into another power socket)
Verify that the monitor is compatible with your computer as older models do not work correctly with some new models. Newer systems do not support extended display.
Swap both the video and the power cables to test if both are working.
Check with the monitor setup guide to ensure the correct procedures were performed.
If the monitor is showing a menu then you can assume the monitor is working. If this is the case check the correct drivers are installed for the monitor. This can be done by right clicking my computer-click manage-device manager. If you see an exclamation or question mark then chances are the driver is either incorrect or not installed at all.
You can also start the pc in safe mode by pressing F8 when the windows logo appears. This will load the basic video drivers which should work for most monitors.
If the video drivers appear to be installed and working correctly then the next step would be to check the settings. Check the refresh rate and resolution are within specifications of the user manual. The settings can be found in the advanced tab of the video display properties.
Windows help and support center also gives support for display issues. Simply select help from my computer and type in display issues for a list of suggestions.
Try connecting the monitor to another computer to confirm if the monitor is in fact ok.
Some older monitors will not work with new pcs as video drivers may not be supported.
