Exceptional group costume ideas are not easy to come up with

, but can be well worth the hassle, and are far better than individual costumesif you are exceptionally creative and come up with a really unique idea. Let's start by defining group costumes. A group costume is a costume for a group of individuals, and their costumes are all related or complement each other in some way.

There are two main approaches to group costumes, and they depend upon the number of individuals in the group. Method one is to decide to be a certain group, and then find individuals to be each member of that group. A big plus of this method is that you can look for people who resemble members of the group being mimicked. Method two is to have a group with is predetermined prior to selecting an idea. This is more difficultmuch more difficultbecause the group dressing up must be the same size as the group being mimicked. In addition, it is not possible to find people who look a lot like members of the group being mimicked with as much exactness, because the group dressing up is preset.

Sports teams are always a great way to go. Their chief advantage is flexibility. Almost any group size can be used. Also, both sexes can easily be included. For example, in the case of pro football, a woman could easily be the "tight end." The four most popular sports in America are football, hockey, baseball, and basketball, in no particular order. Any one of these sports makes a fabulous group costume. Obviously, less generic costumes which are creative are a bit better. Example: at a party I attended, a guy went as Tiger Woods and brought 4 women who were his mistresses.

You don't always have to dress up as a person. One person could as Bill Clinton, the other a protractor which measures the curvature of his penis. Three people could go as the JFK Assassination: one could be a sniper, one JFK, the third the Grassy Knoll. There could also be a Jackie O. Another example is my junior year Halloween costume, when we literally got dragged to a Halloween party with a minute's notice. Two guys were connected to a third guy with string, and they wore signs which said Dave, Dave's left nut, Dave's right nut. A tall and short dude went as a priest and the child he molested. A truly Catholic costume!

Don't forget bands. Also superheroes. Both offer some creative opportunities.
