The Greeks love for food is evidenced in how much time and effort they dedicate in recreating traditional foods during special events, further demonstrating how food is deeply rooted in their tradition and history. Although time has passed, the fundamentals of Greek food have remained, with the main ingredient in most Greek recipes reaming as Greek olive oil.

Famous Greek dishes are the Moussaka, a casserole dish made with tomatoes and eggplants, the Giourvarlakia or meatballs, and Greek stuffed cabbage leaves or Dolmades. Britzoles or pork chops and Britzoles Mosharises or veal are types of grilled meats; while Souvlaki is a meat kebab. Also, since Greece is composed of emerald isles surrounded by the seas bounty, one can expect offerings of various types of fish dishes. However, fish dishes are commonly shunned by tourists as the different types of spelling can confuse eaters as to just what type of Mediterranean fish they will be served with. The Tsipoura or sea bream, Kolioi or mackerel and Marida or Maridaki or Atlantic Whitebait Fish are only some of the more common fishes that one will be able to find in most Greek restaurants or taverns. Other seafoods common in these areas are the Kalamaris or squid, Htapodi or octopus, which is usually cooked in boiling water or grilled over hot coals and then dipped in vinegar. They also have Gavros, a certain type of anchovy and Galeos, which is a kind of fillet generally served with a side of garlic salad and beetroot. Fish epicureans may also want to get a taste of the traditional Kakavia, a Greek fish soup which uses of many types of fresh fish and prepared with vegetables, onions, carrots, potatoes, celery and olive oil the star of all Greek food. Widely recognized Greek desserts include the traditional Greek yoghurt with honey and the Baklava.
