Tubal reversal is also known as tubal sterilization reversal or tubal ligation reversals

. This surgical procedure reinstates fertility in women. In this procedure, the fallopian tubes, which were previously separated/ cut during the ligation of tubes, are rejoined to give the women an opportunity to conceive again at any stage of life. Such surgeries are performed by specialist surgeons having good knowledge and experience in the field. According to a survey, as many as 650000 women in US opt for tubal reversals . However, it is seen that almost 25 percent of the women who had undergone tubal ligation opt for the reversal and that too within five years of the surgery.

It is a minor surgery. The procedure normally takes 2-3 hours and is performed under general anesthetic. The doctor reattaches the fallopian tubes in an attempt to make them functional again. Usually, the patient has to stay in the hospital for one night, but to be on the safer side, the patient might require staying in doctors supervision for almost five days.

Tubal ligation reversals have a huge success rate. However, its entirely up to your doctor to decide whether you are an ideal candidate for the surgery or not. The factor that may come in the way of the surgery include medical history of the woman, complete absence of the fallopian tubes, low sperm count, etc.

In case the reversal isnt possible, the doctor may recommend other options of fertility as well which include In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). In vitro fertilization is considered to be an easier option. It involves hormonal medication which helps in stimulation of multiple eggs. In vitro fertilization helps in producing many mature eggs.
