Turn A Dry, Dead Lawn Fresh And Green
Summer should be a time for luscious, thick green grass
. Unfortunately, however, this isnt always achieved so simply. The hot rays of the summer sun, combined with not enough moisture is enough to make even the healthiest of lawns go bad. If youre experiencing dry, dead looking grass that is making you the laughingstock of the neighborhood, dont panic! There are some things you can do to restore your lawn and to make it look better than ever before. Just a little tender loving care can turn things around for the better.
You might be surprised to find that one of the reasons good lawns go bad is because of too much attention, as opposed to not enough. Too much mowing is one culprit of gross grass! If you are mowing more frequently than once a week, often in the hopes of returning your lawn to a fresher looking state, stop! Give your grass some time to re-emerge from its dormant state and to sprout up looking nice, lush, and green. If decreased mowing doesnt help, increase the amount of time you go between lawn mowing. If youre still not seeing results, then its time to move on to other tactics!
Weve already talked about mowing too frequently, but too much cutting is just as bad, if not worse, for your lawn. In the summertime, its okay to let your grass get a little higher than usual. Cutting removes much-needed moisture from the grass and can cause problems with its appearance. By letting it grow taller, you allow it to retain more water and to get the sustenance it needs to look its best. For best results, let your grass grow as high as three inches before you trim.
Its also possible to water your lawn too much. Again, if your grass is dormant, it might just need some time alone to come out looking renewed. Of course, if youre not watering at all, thats probably to blame, or you could be watering the right amount but not in the right way. For best results, do your watering in the early morning. This will keep the grass from drying out too much on hot, humid days and can also keep bugs at bay. Be sure to thoroughly saturate the grassdont just pass over it with a sprinkler. It can take a little trial and error to figure out what your problem is, but you can bet watering has something to do with it!
If you try all of these tips to no avail, then its probably time to call in the professionals. Look for an affordably priced home improvement company that is willing to come out, look at and test your lawn, and to provide you with a proper diagnosis for your yard woes. You should be able to get an estimate for the treatments. Do a little comparison shopping to make sure the rate quoted is fair and then be on your way to a healthy looking lawn.
