Turn Powerpoint Into A Video Presentation
Powerpoint and similar presentation tools are great for producing slide shows about your products
, services and company. The application is mainly used for speed, as anyone that can drag and import images and string a sales line together can usually come up with something very decent.
Of course, you can go a stage further in producing a video from your powerpoint material - and it is much easier than you might think.
The main difference beween a standard PP presentation and a video is in the added effects, transitions and audio. These elements can transform a standard file into a very good video product.
First of all you need to save all of the PP images as JPEG files or similar and put them into a folder called powerpointvideowidget... or something you'll remember - always name the product or service into the filename so it is easy to retrieve later on.
Then you can number each image in the order you would like them to appear in the video and this includes any text, bullet points and other figures. In fact every piece of your presentation (each slide) is saved as an image file (jpeg) so you can move it onto your video timeline later.
You then need to think about a voice over. These can work really well with a presentation like this. Think about what you would normally say in front of board members (or a customer) when you are showing the slides and then condense this into something for video at around 1-3 minutes in length. Always make sure that product videos are no longer than this as people will start to switch off - save the 3-5 minute efforts for a more corporate/company video presentation.
The voice over (narration) should cover the main selling message very early on and will then need to reinforce
these messages towards the end of the video. Just write down what you think your customers would like to hear about to get a good impression of your company and expertise in your niche area. You can then tweak the script later on when you are ready to go with the recording.
The recording devices vary from standard PC microphones to dedicated audio interfaces which are specifically designed to produce great sound. Always try to go with a good quality audio device if you can and then purchase a decent microphone with or without its own power source. If your audio device has phantom power settings then you can use mics without their own power sources. A standard PC will have a sound card, but a poor quality microphone will produce poor sound levels.
When you have recorded your voice, you can add the audio track and the image files as .wav files in the order you want them to
be seen. This will appear on the timeline of the software program you are using and should all be quite straightforward.
Windows has its own package called Movie Maker and Apple have iMovie - both are very decent programs and can be used to manipulate video content and to add decent effects. If you want to go a stage further you can purchase final cut for a MAC or something like Sony Vegas for the PC. These programs raise the bar a little and will take a bit of getting use to.
It is very easy to create a video from powerpoint files and the end result can be added to Youtube and your own website. Make sure that the YT version has a different end credit to include your web address.
Have fun and remember that people always remember quality for the best reasons.
