Turning Dreams into Reality - How to apply the Principles of the Slight Edge

Oh you are a business coach, you have a magic wand and you will be able to make my dreams come true. I dont exactly hear that when I start to work with new business owner clients but I sometimes feel like thats what they expect! Can a persons dream come true? The answer to this is very much dependent on the dreamer? Does the person believe that they can? How powerful is the ambition? When I am working with clients on their business, one of the first things that we focus on is what they want from life and what they want from business. I explain that the business is a vehicle that can provide for them but that its life thats important. I have clients of all ages from 20 right up to 65. In the vast majority of cases, they all have dreams and ambitions. In 90% of cases the clients in question have never actually properly articulated their dreams, shared their dreams or written down the dreams and goals that they have for themselves and their business. Thats the starting point. If you have been following my analysis of The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson, writing your goals and dreams is the penny. If you can think it, ink it, is a phrase or clich that I use Otherwise it is a fleeting thought among the thousands that you have every day. If you can write down your goals and dreams, there is a high probability that you believe them and that increases you chances of achieving them. This also becomes your plan or the basis of the business plan. The next step to turning your dreams into reality is getting to work on them. What are the easy small steps that you must take every day to achieve them. What do you need to start doing every day? What do you need to stop doing every day? What do you need to do more of every day? Then do it every day. The next important aspect of turning your dreams into reality as a business coaching client of mine is to keep score. By keeping score, you keep the focus. You can make better more informed logical decisions if you keep the score. You take some of the emotion away from the decision making, which leads to better decisions being made. We all know that in business and in life, there is no such thing as a straight line. But we must start somewhere and we must start with a plan even if the plan is re written a hundred time so what at least we are working off a plan. Understand that to succeed in business and in life requires hard work and effort. We sometimes have to coach our clients into this mindset. They may have to make some sacrifices.
