Turning Subscribers Into Customers

When building a list, turning prospects into subscribers is only half the job

. After all, the whole reason for building a list in the first place is to turn your subscribers into customers. In order to do this, you have to not only keep your subscribers on your list, but keep them happy.

So how do you get subscribers to buy the products you offer? First of all, when you communicate with your list, you are going to want to think like they would. If you were on your list, what would you want to see in your email box? Would you want to see a constant barrage of product offers, or high quality, valuable content that you could use to help you in whatever it is you are on a list for?

In order to build a highly targeted list of customers, you are going to have to give good quality, valuable content to your subscribers so that they come to trust you. It's always about what you can give away that will help your list, rather than what you can get from them. But this is only half of the story.

You need to understand the fact that people become used to things. If you always give your list high quality FREE valuable content, and never give them a single product offer, you will never make any money. They will come to expect freebies all of the time and you will end up with a cold list.

So how do you solve this problem? What you are going to want to do is give them a product offer for every few free emails you send them. A good ratio is 1:5 or 6. That's one quality product offer for every five or six good high quality free emails sent. This is something you are going to have to test and figure out what works best for you. Depending on your market, you could offer more products with less free content. Or you might find you need to offer less.

It also doesn't hurt to give your subscribers a mixture of free content and paid product offers once in a while. This gives you a much better chance in making a sale, and also helps to keep your list of subscribers happy. It's kind of a "win" "win" situation for both parties.

One other thing to pay attention to is make sure you keep your list clean and free of dead email addresses and people who never buy from you. You should probably clean your list every six months to keep it up to date and responsive. You could even send out an email to people asking them to reconfirm that they want to continue on your list.

Just make sure that you think more about your subscribers than yourself. If you are always giving them helpful information and willing to give high quality, valuable content whenever you communicate with them, you should have no problem converting subscribers into customers.
