Turning Your Cell Phone Into A Modem

Almost everyone has a cell phone nowadays

Almost everyone has a cell phone nowadays. Cell phones started out being used as a way to communicate, but they are now much more than that. With the use of the internet on a cell phone, your possibilities are endless.

One amazing thing that cell phones can do now is become a modem for other computers or devices. It might take some work, but if this is something you want to do it's definitely possible. The name for this is called 'tethering.'

Once you've decided you want to be able to use your cell phone as a modem, you will need to make sure you have everything you need. Make sure you have the right kind of device to hook up to. Laptops are the most common, but different palm devices or desk tops will work too.

You will also need some tool to connect your device to your cell phone. This is normally done with a USB that most phones come with. However, it's really neat to be able to use your blue tooth to connect because this essentially makes your cell phone a wireless router as well.

You will also need the right kind of phone. You need a data-capable cell phone with the right service plan. You can simply call your carrier and ask them what their requirements are for tethering. You may need to sign up for a different plan that allows tethering.

Make sure you have the correct phone type for tethering. A data compatible phone will work as well as smartphones and other phones that can browse the internet. You need to have the right cell phone plan that includes a data plan and sometimes a separate tethering plan.

When you're setting your cell phone up as a modem, you will need to connect it to the other device. Once, it's connected you will also need special software installed from your carrier. Your cell phone will in a way also serve as a network router for your mini network. However, routers provide security that isn't provided through your cell phone.

Tethering can be pretty expensive even with T-mobile. Make sure you are aware of all that it entails before you jump in. If you know what you're doing and have the money to sustain it, then tethering can really be a great benefit.
