So do your research before you pitch the media
. Read the magazine, watch the show, follow and comment on their blog, follow their Twitter, friend them on Facebook and find out as much about the media outlet as you can. And when you get the chance to have a back and forth with the media, the first thing you should do is ask them what they need. It could be nothing, it could be something you can't provide, or it could be something that you are a perfect fit for. But you'll never know, unless you ask. And once you do ask, close your mouth and open up those ears, then give them what they want.
