Two Top Tips for Passing your Driving Test:
When you embark upon the adventure of first learning to drive; and then passing your test and joining that ever growing community known as "motorists," you are in fact following a well blazed trail, that hundreds of thousands of people have travelled before you, It does not have to be a tortuous and tormenting affair! There are definite "signposts" (please excuse the obvious metaphor!) along the way, as with any road. There are things you can do to make the road easier, faster and more assured.
Firstly, you will need to choose a decent, professional Driving Instructor.
This should be one who is affordable, but even more importantly, fits you as a person, personality-wise, as well as fitting your wallet. Next, you get onto the actual activity of learning how to drive. The truly caring Driving Instructor will take care of at least 80% of the skills required to cover the specific points and actions that you will need to know and master.
However, there is a lot that you can do yourself, outside of what the Driving Instructor brings to the table, so to speak.
Here are 2 key actions that you can take yourself, that will help you and your Driving Instructor, in your mutual goal of getting you successfully through your Driving Test:
1: Familiarization: This means simply getting to know, in the physical unverse, the thing that you're learning about. In this case obviously, a car. Please don't belittle what can be gained from this simple sounding procedure. Try it and you will be well rewarded! When we speak of familiarization, we're NOT talking about reading lots of books and manuals or somesuch. This really is a very fundamental action where you actively and physically explore the car and all it's parts. Do this so you fully know what is what and where things are car-wise. You would be amazed at how many motorists there are driving around that omitted this action. Yes, they eventually got to be motorists, but I can assure you that they would have gotten there a lot sooner if they had applied this step first.
2: Know your terms: Here, you get into the "studying" part of taking the test, which for many people these days, is the most worrying part of the whole process. The trick here to apply, is to use a dictionary! Actually make up a list of all the most important words and terms there are to do with a car and driving and then look these words up in a dictionary and make sure you understand each one of them. Also do this, when studying the Highway Code, ensuring that you do look up and fully understand any terms in it that that you are unsure of. Don't be glib and offhand about it - don't assume you already know all the words - just do it - and again you will be surprised as to just how car "literate" you can become.
By doing the above two simple actions, you will assist yourself and your Driving Instructor greatly in getting you speedily and successfully through the Driving Test - Theory and Practical - and onto the road as a wise and well taught fully licensed driver!
