Antique furniture has its own distinct advantage
, not only it adds to the dcor of the house but also brings along a snippet of time when it was made. You obviously feel related to some period of time but cannot relish it and thus buying antique farm tables of that time makes you ease the nostalgic commotion. You can judge the age of furniture by its style, however, you can also know about its origin by the type of wood that was used to make it.
When you are considering buying an antique, you should go for something that has some utility along with its being ornamental. Therefore, harvest tables make a great choice, as it is useful as well as decorative. The wood used by Egyptians around 2000 years ago to make the tables was dark. They preferred ebony wood for the purpose as it is sturdy.
Romans preferred beech and pine wood. They also focused on making smaller tables. It was generally used for dining or gambling. Contrary to the Egyptians, the tables made around 2000 years ago by the Romans were of light colour wood and thus were not durable.
After 500 A.D not much of development was noticed in the art of making tables for the next 1000 years. However, the period of renaissance brought in a lot of rapid changes. Moreover, in the reign of the French king Louis XIV, a lot of development took place. However, the use of pine wood continued, till colonization of the orient became a supply zone of hard wood like, mahogany, zebra and rosewood.
The period of renaissance and the colonization brought in a lot of wealth and peaceful time, enabling people to relish art and leisure. Therefore, the rich could afford costly workmanship and craftsmanship on hard wood that was brought in from eastern world.
Later with fragmentation of colonies the supply of hard wood suffered and even the supply of pine was cut off to places like establishments of Halifax and other Arcadian establishments. Thus the people of this part of world started using black birch, which is also popularly called the mahogany of the poor.
French people, those who ventured to Quebec, either for work or in search of better living opportunities were not able to bring along big, heavy furniture. However, the nostalgia travelled across the ocean and thus in present day Canada, people have a strong desire to own regal French farm tables.
Since authentic antique furniture is very costly, therefore, people who have deep desire to own French antique also prefer to go with French Painted furniture. These are more economically viable option for those who do not want to spend much on authentic antique.
