Assisted living is a broad term. We could discuss the different types of assisted living that are available to the senior communities in our area. I have seen and am aware of good and bad assisted living care centers. I've seen and witnessed also the various types of assisted living services that don't include living facilities. I've seen and witnessed these types of assisted living by going to assisted living care centers in my youth and performing with musical and religious groups for assisted living care center entertainment and socialization services. I've also seen the assisted living services available to my senior grandparents. I've seen the assisted living services that they have enjoyed and accepted and the assisted living services they have rejected and then regretfully accepted.

Assisted living is not a term that anyone wants to accept, that they can't live and take care of themselves so they need "assisted living" services. It takes some humility to accept that you can't take care of yourself and to ask for help. And I think it would be even frustrating to have to buckle down and admit to yourself and others that you're going to have to pay for assisted living services because you can't do things for yourself.

My grandfather desperately needed assisted living services to help him care for medical needs and even just to cook and bring food for him. After my grandmother died he withered away until now he lays in bed and is only skin and bones when you look at him. Assisted living services could have provided food for him since he didn't even really know how to cook, even using the microwave. My senior grandparents had a way of living that my grandmother just always took care of the food and cooking, even when she wasn't feeling well.

Assisted living services was something my grandfather rejected for several years after he lost his wife. He didn't want to admit or pay for assisted living services when he could enjoy the independence of taking care of himself. There are several neighbors and members of his church that helped provide services and came to his housing to visit and meet his needs. So, he didn't need to pay for or ask for assisted living services. But, as his health deteriorated assisted living services was more and more of a necessity. One day my dad went by his housing and found that my grandfather couldn't even open the door and he was confused. We found that assisted living services that would monitor his medical condition and health would have been very useful because he actually had a stroke in his house all alone and no body knew until they came by to visit. Assisted living services even if it's just monitoring the health of a senior and providing health info to family members could have saved my grandfather from some health problems later.

Assisted living services can include food deliver, travel care and info services, medical info monitoring and medical care, assisted living services provided by a house-nurse, assisted living services providing senior communities with entertainment and social circles, assisted living services that help our senior communities feel needed and useful and helpful in our communities, and the most common an assisted living care center.
