Types Of Hard Flooring
When you think about hard flooring, the first type that probably comes to your mind is hardwood flooring
. There are many other kinds of hard flooring available to have installed in your home. Some of these are brick, tile, stone, and of course wood. This category basically covers everything that is not carpeting or rugs. Hard flooring is not for everyone because there are those people that enjoy the softness that is provided by carpeting. However, those that prefer hard flooring do so because of the elegant appearance it lends to the home and the rather simple clean up.
Brick flooring is not extremely popular in the home. It is an okay choice for hallways and possibly the living room. This is because it tends to crumble and it is rather porous. This makes it a bad choice for any rooms that have a large amount of water in them such as kitchens and bathrooms. If they are not properly sealed, which it is difficult to seal this type of material, they can be hard to clean.
Tiles are a popular type of hard flooring. There is a wide variety of different materials that the tiles can be made from. Some are crumbly and are not great for heavy foot traffic, but there are a great many that would work perfectly. Just as with brick, it is essential that your tiles are properly sealed so they can be cleaned and not become ruined. Ceramic tiles are one of the most popular types because they are strong and can be installed in kitchens and bathrooms because water will not destroy them. Terracotta is one of the least popular types because they do not withstand heavy foot traffic and they are crumbly and difficult to clean.
You may not have thought about it, but concrete is a type of hard flooring. Typically you will not see concrete floors inside the home. This is because it is usually used as the subfloor which is underneath the carpeting or wood covering. However, it can be seen in basements and garages. This is because concrete is strong and can withstand lots of pressure, even from extremely heavy objects such as trucks and cars. This strength is also what makes it wonderful for a foundation to hold the coverings that are placed inside the home. Concrete can have most anything cleaned from it, and you can find specific cleaners for this type of floor in any market.
