Even in a warm house, one can feel a lot of discomfort if the humidity level in that room is not as required by the human body

. During winter, in particular, low humidity can cause lot of discomfort due to drying of mucus membranes alongside other consequences like house wall and floor cracking .One can increase the humidity level of a room by simply putting a pot of boiling water over heat or hanging wet towels over a heater.

There are a number of traditional ways that one can use to increase the humidity level of a room including, hanging wet towel near a heater or boiling a pot of hot water.

It can be either a cool or warm mist model, and one needs to consider this before buying . There are also portable appliances which can be moved from one room to another with ease or large ones that are much difficult to move around, and this also should be a consideration one ought to make before buying one.

Types of humidifiers are:The evaporative type:This is the cool mist type and indeed the most common. It has a wick, a reservoir which holds water before releasing it to the basin, and a filter which absorbs it from the container. The fan then blows the filter that is dump with water, and this causes moisture to be released into the air; therefore, raising the humidity of the room. This type is especially good since it traps any harmful bacteria and microorganisms preventing them from being released into the air.

The electronic model

This model releases warm mist and is best for indoors. It does not produce noise unlike other models and is suited for cold climates. Not to mention, it has the ability to filter out bacteria and harmful microorganisms preventing them from being released into the air. It has a replaceable filter that needs to be replaced regularly to give the best out of the device. The device also has two speed settings: one for general use and another for overnight use. This model however has its share of disadvantages including the fact that it is a set and leave device that can therefore fill the air with too much moisture if left running overnight. Not to forget, the high electricity consumption. It also requires often cleaning to prevent the growth of bacteria.
