Types Of Packaging And Labeling Material
For any commercial product, packaging and labeling goes hand in hand
. If you are a commercial product manufacturer, you need to know as much about the packaging as the labeling. After all any product package is incomplete without labeling. Being a good business dealer, you must have knowledge about the material used for finishing of product so that you are not fooled by packaging and labeling companies.
Types of labeling material
Coated paper
This is the most basic type of label that you can find anywhere around. They are fragile than anyone of its group and are tend to tear easily. They are made of paper with a thin coating, which can be glossy, dull, or matte. The purpose of coating the paper is to produce sharper and brighter image, and also to have better reflectivity. They are printed with ink jet, laser printer, or Hp Indigo press.
Laminated paper
This material is a better option over coated paper. Though they are also made of paper but are joined together with two or more layers of extremely thin plastic. It is good for liquid products because even if paper tears the plastic layer will hold the ink.
Polypropylene
Thermoplastic substrates are usually used to make labels, which make them resistant to heat, cold, humidity, damage and flexing. Obviously, it is a tough material and is appropriate for bottled water labeling.
Synthetic composite
It is latest in the market. This material combines polyolefin and silica filler. Strangely, it looks like heavyweight paper and even behaves like paper while printing, yet it is quite strong, long lasting and resistant to water.
Types of packaging material
Primary packaging: As the name suggests, it is the first envelop that covers the product and holds it. The material used for primary packaging is typically under direct contact of the content, say bottle, carton box, etc. Therefore this is called the smallest unit of distribution. Some examples are:
Bags-In-Boxes
Aerosol osol spray can
Wine box
Bottles
Beverage can
Blister packs
Carton
Cushioning
Plastic bags
Plastic bottles
Envelopes
Skin pack
Wrappers
Tin can
Secondary packaging: It comes after primary packaging and therefore is outside of the primary one. It may look like group packaging. Types of material used for the purpose are:
Shrink wrap
Cartons
Boxes
Tertiary packaging: This is used for bulky products and to make them survive under rough handling and during shipping. Strong materials are used for this purpose, like
Barrel
Crate
Bales
Container
Pallets
edge protector
Slip Sheet
Stretch wrap
Intermediate bulk container
Insulated shipping container
Flexible intermediate bulk container, Big bag, Bulk Bags, or Super Sacks
