From cosy duffle coats to waterproof macs, there are so many different styles of
women's coats that it can be difficult to choose which one best suits what you're looking for - you may be after a coat for those cold winter months or a waterproof for rainy spring days.

Duffle coats
Usually made from a thick woollen material, duffle coats are the perfect coat for winter because they offer the most warmth out of any other style. The majority of duffle coats also have large hoods for those chilly and rainy days, and are instantly recognisable by their toggle fastenings down the front of the coat.
Macs
Perfect for those wet days, a waterproof mac coat or jacket will keep you completely dry, however, they tend not to be very thick so they're best for spring months. But if you want to wear a mac in winter or autumn it's best to team it with a chunky knit or a fleece jacket for extra warmth.
Double-breasted coats
Quite self-explanatory, a double-breasted coat is one that features two rows of buttons that overlaps to fasten and comes in a variety of different coat styles including macs and trench coats. A popular style of coat, double-breasted coats have a more formal look than other styles, which makes them so easy to dress up or down.
Parkas
A casual style of coat that is intended to be more about practicality and comfort rather than fashion, a parka coat is typically waterproof and features a hood and is therefore designed to be used in the colder months in the wet weather. Many contemporary parka coats also have drawstrings and have been especially popular with the recent military look trend.
Trench coats
Generally made from leather or another heavy material, trench coats are a traditional style of coat that have been brought into the modern day with a fashionable twist. Typically waterproof, trench coats are also ideal for wearing during rainy seasons. A women's trench coat will not usually have a hood however and will likely be double-breasted with belt detail.
Blazers
A formal and usually tailored style of jacket that has been a big fashion trend this past year, women's blazers have been teamed with jeans for a more casual look that's very chic. Of course, a blazer is more suit to the summer months and warm spring or autumn days, as they're typically made from thin materials.
Leather jackets
Originally making an appearance a couple of years ago as a latest trend, leather jackets seem to be sticking around for the next few years. From casual leather bomber jackets to more stylish fitted leather jackets, they're all fashionable yet practical mainly because a real leather jacket offers warmth too.
Top tips on buying women's coats:
Think about the length of the coat and what you'll most likely be wearing it with - what may look good with trousers may not with skirts.
If you're buying a winter coat don't be afraid to spend a little more; you'll wear it all the time and it's an investment piece.
A good quality coat should see you through to the following year at least.
Don't be tempted by fashions, they'll most likely go out of style quickly and you won't get the wear out of your new coat.
If you're buying an investment coat then go for a versatile colour like black or grey - if you yearn for colour a red coat is probably best.
A coat with a hood will be much more practical and wearable than one without.
