Palace of Alexander III in Massandra
An architectural and arts museum has recently been unveiled in the Palace. Designed as an imitation of a romantic castle on the Loire River, the Palace with its bright looks was to reflect and merge harmoniously with the southern nature.
Livadia palace
The palace was built in Renaissance style in 1910-1911 according to the designs of M. Krasnov. In the complex the master combined the mysterious Byzantine and Arabic motifs with more traditional Gothic ones. When in the palace, you will see the study of Nicholas II, the last Russian emperor. Now there is an exposition dedicated to the life of the Czar's family in Crimea, but Livadiysky Palace is known because of another event. In 1945 it hosted the historic summit between the three most powerful men in the alliance fighting Nazi Germany, Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Visitors can sit at the round table used for the actual negotiations and in the armchair where members of the 3-member coalition sat to discuss the future of a post Hitler Europe.
The famous - Swallow's Nest.
Swallow's Nest is a fairy tale castle, the glory of a million post-cards, perched at the top of a sheer cliff on Cape Ai-Todor, about 10 km west of Yalta. Built in 1912 for Baron Shteingel, a German oil magnate, it's now an Italian restaurant.
Bakhchisaray palace
The small town of Bakhchisaray brings you face to face with the Tatar era of Crimean's past. From the 15th century until 1783, Bakhchisaray was the seat of the Crimean khans, the last westward bastion of the descendants of Jenghiz Khan 's hordes. From 1475, Crimean tatars were vassals of the Ottoman Empire.
Palace "Dulber"
The palace was built in 1895-1897 for the great prince Petro Romanov. The combination of the palace and the park will get you to the world of oriental fairy tales. Silver domes, battlements, numerous arches and ornaments remind one of 15th century Egypt. Today the palace houses a sanatorium which welcomes its visitors.
Vorontsovsky Palace
The palace was erected according to the designs of E. Blor in 1828-1848 for count Vorontsov. The master of his time was George IV and Queen Victoria's court architect. He was the author of the design of the Westminster Abbey and a part of a front of the Buckingham Palace. There you will learn how one can combine such seemingly incompatible things such as British Gothic and oriental coloring in one building.
Chersonesos
Tauric Chersonesos is the name of the city founded by Greek colonists in southwestern Crimea more than 2500 years ago. Its archaeological ruins are presently one of the attractions of the city of Sevastopol.
In ancient Greek the word Chersonesos means "peninsula." The city was indeed located on a small peninsula between two bays. "Tauric" Chersonesos further denotes the location of the colony, that is, "in the lands of the Taurians". This a warring tribe that inhabited the neighboring mountains. The city was destined to exist for nearly two thousand years, and its history is intertwined with that of ancient Greece, Rome, and Byzantium.
