Understanding Abstract Art

To the untrained eye, abstract art may look like splatters of paint on a canvas or a pile of junk stacked in the center of a museum

. It looks as if it is easily accomplished by anyone. We have come to think that if you cannot recognize the object, then it can't be any good. For many decades, what art really is has been contemplated by its viewers and critics.

Photography has played a large role in the development of modern abstract art. Abstract art is dated back to ancient times. There are no reasons to doubt photography's correlation to abstract art. Expression through photography became a natural calling to many artists.

Abstract Art's Purpose.

Strategically placing lines, color and developing proper form is the goal of abstract artists. Photographs capture abstract art. It is a feeling. It's intended to elicit a sensation or a feeling that the viewer gets when they observe the image, rather than a logical interpretation you make by looking at a realistic portrait. Abstraction can be complete fiction or realistic.

A Famous Abstract Artist

Wassily Kandinsky is who people may think of when discussing the roots of abstract modern art. Living from the turn of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, he was a natural-born citizen of Russia. The paintings he produced ran the gamut from organic and flowing to geometric and pictorial. His art was before its time. He was in his thirties when he first enrolled in art school, having had a successful career as a lecturer in economics and law. He participated in the production of many art theory books. Abstract art can be diverse. Mondrian is an artist who engages in geometric design for their images. Interesting canvases are often created through dripping and throwing paint, layer and blending paint.

Art is fit and remodeled according to time periods. To see a time and style of a country's history, the type of art present may help. Studying modern history helps educate on modern art. The 20th century was a period of art movements like Dadaism and Cubism.

Abstract art is not about what you see, but how you feel when you see it. Go to a museum or pick up a book of modern art. Observe the imagery. Inform yourself on the structure of art. Art can easily be analyzed if educated on the history. And by understanding the art, you will have a richer understanding of history.
