Understanding Axillary Hyperhidrosis
If you have heard the term Axillary Hyperhidrosis you probably don't know what it means or implies. Simply put, it is a medical condition for excessive sweating especially in a person's armpits. Unilateral Axillary Hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, is a condition where someone sweats abnormally in only a single armpit while the other armpit sweats normally.
It is normal for someone to sweat since this is the body's normal way of excreting the excess water that builds up in the body. This is also the body's way of releasing the excess salts and toxins that it has accumulated. The right amounts of sweat released is actually healthy for a normal person since it keeps the body's normal temperature and keeps the skin moist and soft.
However, excessive sweating can progress to a lot of medical complications and can also cause a lot of emotional discomforts. People with this problem tend to sweat a lot in the armpits and may even excrete offensive body odor. This could cause a great deal of problems and discomfort for the person with this kind of condition.
People with this problem are restricted and limited when it comes to a lot of things. They have to be choosy with the type of clothing that they should wear since they should use cloths or colors that won't cause one too sweat so much. This means that taut clothes should be avoided at all cost. They also tend to limit their movements such as lifting their arms so as not to expose their wet underarms. The common action of hugging someone is generally avoided by a person that suffers from excessive sweating. The embarrassment of letting the other person know, feel and sense his excessive sweating condition can literally lessen his social relations.
This medical problem can be quite stressful to someone with Axillary Hyperhidrosis. They find it extremely difficult to live a normal life. Their over-all performance at work and their personal relationships are severely affected. Research has shown that this condition is triggered by over-stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system or the fight or flight response. Also, psychological factors such as emotional stress and anxiety can play a big role in worsening this condition.
This extensive sweating condition can appear in both sexes and commonly presents itself during the adolescent years of a person's life. If it is left untreated, it can worsen when he or she reaches adulthood. Studies show that hormonal imbalances have no relation whatsoever in the cause of excessive sweating in women. This condition can be treated with the use of prescriptive medication, the topical application of anti-perspirants preparations and in extreme cases surgery is even required.
