Understanding Microdermabrasion And Your Skin

Microdermabrasion is considered to be a non-surgical approach to the treatment of fine lines

, scars, strange skin pigmentation, skin that has been damaged by the sun, and wrinkles. The good thing about microdermabrasion is that it's safe on almost all skin types and skin colors, and that it's affordable. In most cases, it costs anywhere from just under $100 to $150 per session. Most people get the best results after they've had ten to twelve sessions, and you can get it done in a number of spas and doctor's offices. Because each session only takes a short amount of time, many people get the procedure done during their lunch hour or immediately following the day's work.

While you can use a home microdermabrasion system, it's not generally recommended. The home microdermabrasion systems use similar materials that you'll find at the spa or doctor's office; however, because these materials can be dangerous to use if you don't use them correctly, it's a good idea to let a qualified and trained technician do the microdermabrasion for you in a professional setting.

Unlike some skin procedures, many people won't know that you had microdermabrasion after you've had it. Some procedures that get rid of fine lines leave a very noticeable red mark or tint, but microdermabrasion doesn't. There may be a slight amount of redness, such as the type of redness that you would get after you've been in the sun for too long, but within a few hours this redness will go away. You can also use moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the skin when you arrive home. You may find that the skin flakes a bit after you've had microdermabrasion, but this is normal and should disappear within a few days.

A visible improvement in your skin should be noticed immediately after the first treatment, but the more treatments you have, the better you will look. Age spots and acne scars will appear to fade away after you've had a few microdermabrasion treatments, and even darker pigmented skin will look better. Microdermabrasion is not to be used to get rid of tattoos, but there are other spa treatments that you may be able to have which can help you with tattoo removal. All in all, microdermabrasion is a great way to get your skin looking healthier and to help you to look, and feel, younger.
