Understanding Ovulation and Pregnancy
Ovulation describes the process where an egg from the ovary is released and moves down the fallopian tube to be fertilized. During a normal menstrual cycle, the inside of the uterus will be thickened to prepare for a fertilized egg to grow into a foetus. In the event that no pregnancy occurs, the unfertilized egg and the uterus lining will be shed. This is the time we call menstruation.
A woman's menstrual cycle starts from the first day of her menstrual period and ends on the first day of her next period. Most women's cycle is approximately 28 days. As not every woman has the same genes, health, lifestyle, environment and eating habits, the menstrual cycle can be anything from 28 to 33 days. Ovulation usually occurs sometimes between 12 to 16 days before the start of your next period. A woman is known to be the most fertile during ovulation and having sexual intercourse during ovulation has the best chance of conceiving.
If you are trying to conceive, it's important that you write on the start and end dates of your menstrual cycle for a few months in order to better understand your cycle. Ovulation can occur on different day every month.
