Other uses of lye or caustic soda are in chemical manufacturing, specifically in acid neutralization, off gas scrubbing and for pH control. It is also used in petroleum and natural gas industry to remove acidic contaminants in the processing of oil and gas. Moreover the chemical are also used in food preparation companies where it is used to clean fruits and vegetables before shipping them to market. The compound is mixed with water and used to dissolve the carcasses of animals after all usable parts are harvested for food production for humans as well as for animals.
Substance is available in many different forms such as pure caustic soda is white crystalline solid and another form is available as 50% saturated solution. The containers used in storing this substance should be airtight or tightly closed. With the various benefits, this compound is handled with so much care as it is highly dangerous when comes in skin and eye contact. It is advisable to use it under some professional considerations and one should wear gloves and uniform to cover himself while using this compound.
